In the autobiography Almost A Woman by Esmeralda Santiago, there are many cultural differences. She feels alienated from the rest of the people in New York or the United States, for that matter. When Esmeralda was thirteen she moved to New York with her family from Puerto Rico. 'Almost A Woman' by Esmeralda Santiago was a very detailed and fascinating story to read as Esmeralda told of being a young girl coming to America from Puerto Rico. Esmeralda or 'Negi' as she is known in the book, faces the rough changes coming from Puerto Rico to Brooklyn, New York.
Hundreds of protesters marched in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday night after a Black teenage girl was shot and killed by the police while they saved another girl’s life in the process.
Protesters gathered outside of the Columbus police headquarters for hours on Tuesday after 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant was identified by her family as the victim in the police shooting.
Paula Bryant told local 10TV that her daughter, whom she described as an honor-roll student, was shot dead in the incident on Tuesday afternoon.

What is really strange is the fact that these”protesters” didn’t even bother to watch the body cam videos before they went out and start more riots.
Columbus Police Department officials released an officer’s bodycam video showing the seconds leading up to the shooting of a teenage girl. The chaotic video shows a fight in progress.
The Columbus Division of Police released a bodycam video showing Tuesday’s shooting of a young black girl who appeared to be armed with a knife. The video appears to show the girl fighting with another girl as the officer opens fire.

A body camera footages from other officers were also released from the fatal police shooting of Ma’Khia Bryant.
In one of the videos, the victim that was attacked by Ma’Khia Bryant can be heard saying: “She came after me with the knife, so the police got her”

Almost a Woman is a 2001 made-for-television film, directed by Betty Kaplan and based on the autobiographical book of the same name by Puerto Rican writer Esmeralda Santiago. The film is about a young woman named Esmeralda and her family who move to New York from a rural area of Puerto Rico. The transition is difficult due to the many challenges she and her family face. It was aired on PBS as part of Masterpiece Theatre's American Collection.
